Background
Wood as regional building material and energy. There is a lot of forest in the Aachen region and in the near Belgian area. But a few years ago building with wood was not very popular and until today heating with wood is not established. One reason is the quantity of sustainable wood in Aachen is not known. Thus the foundation commissioned a study to remedy this deficiency. How much wood can be extracted from the Aachen forests? Which qualities are available?

Description
Result: 47 megawatts per day are available from sustainable cultivation of the regional forests. Possibilities of use have been presented.

Status
Currently the Stawag Aachen AG is planning the building of a wood gasification plant on the premises of the former heat plant of the clinical centre.
