Background
Wood is a regional and renewable building material. The Southern region of Aachen  - called Eifel – has a large tradition in building with wood but in the new buildings of the 90s timber construction still was an exception although the undoubted advantages were already known. The foundation wanted to bring timber construction into public awareness by organizing two "wood fairs"?.

Description
In 1999, the first small wood fair was organized with several committed architects for a weekend. Some hundred interested citizens were impressed by the possibilities of timber construction. In autumn 2001, this fair was organized again in a 500m2 marquee on the Katschhof in Aachen. Besides timber architects the subject resource saving heating with wood was presented by several vendors. Some thousand visitors were informed on this weekend.

Status
Timber construction is now widely spread in the Aachen region and wood pellets initiatives have been founded. This project is settled and no further activities are planned.
