Background
This environmental award created a platform for exemplary projects and initiatives for a concrete improvement of general, ecological living conditions. The assigned projects were concrete examples to motivate everyone’s own activity.

Individuals, initiatives, associations, companies, administrations of the Euregio Meuse-Rhine region.

Description
The Environmental Award of Aachen has been announced from 1995 until 2007; since 2003 for the Euregio Meuse-Rhine region and from 2005 every two years with a prize money of 10,000 Euros. The announcement of 2007 had the slogan "Nutzen statt Besitzen"? which stands for the saving of resources which is the basis for a sustainable society.

Status
The Environmental Award has encouraged people since 1995 to realize important exemplary projects and initiatives of sustainable development and improvement of living and environmental conditions. Today there are a such lot of those initiatives that the Aachen Foundation has decided to cease the Environmental Award in 2010.
